Hamilton
The capital of Bermuda, this is the center of the government and of the
insurance and financial institutions that use Bermuda as an "off-shore"
haven from U.S. tax laws. As a tourist, you'll notice the hustle and
bustle typical of a small city, along with the shopping that is prominent
along the waterfront. Shopping here is primarily in nicer stores, similar
to what you would find in any U.S. city.
Favorites in Hamilton -- visit the
stores, experience the business side of Bermuda, have a bite to eat, visit
the aquarium, and climb the 155 steps of the Bermuda Cathedral Tower on Church
Street for a fantastic panoramic view that stretches from coast to coast
(stop at the church office to pay your $5 admission fee). The
Cathedral dates back to 1844, and the Tower was completed in 1905.
The Tower is open to the public Monday through Saturday from 10am to 4pm. But most of all -- visit
the beaches, which are far more impressive than any photograph.
He
said -- great city, with the downtown area right next to the harbor.
Easy walking distance to everything. The city had a very provincial
feel to it. Climbing up to the top of the Bermuda Cathedral was
tiring but worth it -- what a great view of the island, from one side to
the other. She
said -- I just loved the mansions on the hills on the other
side of the harbor. We sat on our ship's balcony and watched the sun set on them and it
was beautiful. This is a gorgeous setting.
