Guide to the Bridges of Venice
Venice is not just one island -- it's
comprised of over 100 separate islands, and all of them are joined together
by bridges. Lots of bridges. As you stroll through the streets
of Venice, you will come to bridge after bridge. Most of them have six
or eight steps on each side, with a flat top that is ideal for pausing and
taking photographs. They're just high enough for boats and
gondolas to pass under them, although at high tide the gondoliers may have
to stoop a bit to fit under the bridges (see first picture below).
