Guide to Venice Photography
If you are an avid photographer, this will be as
close to heaven as you can get. Every turn in the street, every bridge,
every square, yields another opportunity for multiple photos that are even
better than the previous ones. Be sure to allow yourself time to just
wander around some, so you can take advantage of the beauty and charm of Venice.
Tips for photos in Venice: (a) lighting at high noon or diffused light on
a cloudy day will be good for the standard street shots and photos of the many
canals; (b) open squares (usually with churches) can be photographed anytime, as
either morning or afternoon sun will shine on buildings and increase contrast;
(c) Grand Canal photos truly capture the look and "feel" of Venice, and can be
taken anytime -- just cross a bridge if you are on the wrong side for the
sunlight; (d) don't miss a chance to take the elevator to the top of the bell
tower in St. Mark's Square, where you will have panoramic views of the entire
city (the crowd disappears after 5pm, and you may want to time your visit for
twilight); (e) look for colors and textures where you can compose a photo.
